Showing Up

You‘ve probably heard Woody Allen’s famous line, “Nine tenths of success is just showing up.” Help your sales pros nine tenths of the way by passing on these three rules for showing up:

SHOW UP EVERY TIME.

Once you join a business organization (you should belong to three), mark the meeting dates on your calendar for the whole year and consider them fixed appointments. Business networking is about building credibility. Sporadic attendance doesn’t transmit the credible message you want to send about your business.

SHOW UP FOR EVERYTHING.

When you get an invitation to an open house, show up. When a contact hosts a party, RSVP promptly and show up. Have you received an announcement for a grand opening, holiday party, retirement celebration? Show up. People give referrals to people they know and people who support them. Business networking is about building relationships. To do that, you’ve got to show up.

SHOW UP FOR A VISIBLE LEADERSHIP POSITION.

Volunteer for a committee, say yes to an officer nomination. Certainly it’s more work, but it’s work with the leaders, and it gives you the opportunity to showcase your business credibility – which is why you joined the group in the first place! If you’re going to show up, be visible.
